How are you feeling about birth right now?

Whenever birth is shown on the television have you noticed that it is never a calm, quiet, dark environment in which the woman looks in control with a supportive birth partner? That wouldn’t provide much entertainment would it?
Birth on TV usually looks painful. Long. Traumatic. Something that you are not in control of. Not the time of birth that you would choose for yourself. It makes you believe that this is what birth is meant to be like for every woman and so this is the birth that you expect for yourself . . . on your back, screaming whilst shouting at your partner that you are never doing this again!
In reality, birth doesn’t have to be like this at all. It can be calm, positive and something that you are in charge of. It’s your birth and you deserve to be in control of it.
You wouldn’t go to a restaurant and be told by the waiter what you had to have to eat. Birth is the same. ‘Your birth, your way’

SO WHAT IS HYPNOBIRTHING?

Hypnobirthing is a full birth preparation course which will equip you with a toolkit of techniques to stack the odds in your favour that you will have a calm and relaxed birth in which you feel confident and in control.

The tools and techniques in hypnobirthing can help to retrain your brain so that you can begin to eliminate the fear associated with labour and birth that is stored in your unconscious.
We will look at where the fear of birth has come from and talk about how we can start to think of birth in a more positive light which will make you feel more relaxed and calmer when going in to your birth.

WHAT WILL
HYPNOBIRTHING teach me?

Hypnobirthing teaches breathing techniques so that the you can remain calm not only in your birth itself but in pregnancy and beyond. The ‘calm breathing’ technique that we will learn will help you to become relaxed quickly by stimulating your parasympathetic nervous system with allows you to be calm and make rational decisions. The ‘down breath’ technique which we will learn will help with the birthing stage of labour.
Self-hypnosis and visualisations will also help to work on the unconscious mind to address the fear that may be stored there.

During the course you will learn about the process of birth so that when things happen during your labour and birth you will
Understand what is happening in your body and this will also help reduce the fear factor. Aspects of the maternity system is taught too to highlight the fact that you will always have choices and you will be empowered to ask questions of your care providers to ensure that you make the right choice for you.
Throughout the course your birth partner will be fully involved meaning that during appointments, labour and birth they will know exactly how to support you to make sure that your wishes are met.
