What is baby yoga?

Baby yoga is a great follow on class for baby massage. Suitable from 12 weeks baby yoga involves yoga inspired stretches and dynamic movements for your baby to further develop their awareness of their body (proprioception) and how their body moves. It is also great for brain development and communication too.

It also allows you time to connect with other parents to ask questions and make new friends.

Relief

Baby yoga gives you a tool kit of yoga positions and poses that can bring relief to a range of ailments that your baby may face including colic and tense and tired muscles. Massaging your baby also boosts their endorphins, which are compared to a natural form of morphine so the relief it provides can be long lasting.

Relaxation

As you complete yoga positions and poses (or asanas) with your baby you will both release oxytocin, the love hormone, which will make you both feel relaxed and calm by lowering you heart rate and blood pressure. Baby yoga also brings relief to ailments such as constipation which will help your baby to be more calm and relaxed.

Baby yoga incorporates dynamic stretches and movements. During a session we will work on crossing the midline which will allow the right and left hand sides of the brain to begin to talk and work with each other. This is vital for the development of things such as a dominant hand and movements where both sides of the body need to work together such as pushing and pulling.

Bonding

Touch is one of the first senses that we develop. Babies are to feel and respond to our touch in the womb and so baby massage is a great way to continue and deepen your bond with your baby.
Baby massage give you a dedicated time for just the both of you with no distractions. You are able to tune in to your baby’s cues, allows for lots of eye contact and further familiarises them with your voice.

When can we start baby yoga?

You can start baby yoga when your child is 12 weeks old. This is because of some of the movements that we cover in classes only being suitable for older babies with good head control.
